THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON TOURISM (MORE DETAILS)

The pandemic has had an enormous impact all over the world. Lots of employees

especially in the hospitality industry as well as hotels & tourist attractions lost their jobs and had a long period of unemployment. Therefore, many people are having a hard time paying the rent and bills. At the same time, some people have mental stress about not going outside not as much as they used to. In addition, the MICE industry has been seriously affected by economic issues due to the spread of virus and lockdown as follows.

Business impact on travel and tourism

Keeping in mind the unexpected travel limits, the United Nations World Tourism Organization believes that international tourists will be reduced by 20% to 30% in 2020, when compared to last year. To change how we are looking at this, they also drew a comparison from the SARS outbreak in 2009. It has led to loss of just 0.4% of the international tourist market. The hotel industry makes up 10% of the worldwide GDP.

Starting in Asia, there were breaks and production which now have spread to supply chains across the world. No matter what size the businesses, they are facing serious challenges, especially those in the air travel, tourism, and hospitality trades, with a possibility of losing a lot of money, collapses, and job losses in specific areas.  Small and medium businesses will be particularly difficult for the supporting business strategies.
